I've just listened to the first two episodes of "Silicon valley USA" from the BBC's Listen Again archives. They were entertaining, if not what I'd expected. Although they interview the famous people from the area - Larry Ellison, Gordon Moore, etc. - they're not in depth interviews. The programmes really are about the valley itself; it's history, inhabitants etc.
Mobile computing
Before too long I'll have to find a replacement for my pair of ageing Toshiba Libretto sub-note books, so I was intrigued by a new Windows XP device called Tiqit:
"With a 4" color screen, 56-key QWERTY keyboard, x86 compatibility, and standards-based extensibility to support any wireless communication option (WiFi, CDMA, Bluetooth, Infrared, etc.), the Tiqit becomes an indispensable, truly mobile, business productivity tool."http://www.tiqit.com/specs.shtml
You can also plug in a keyboard and screen and use it as desk-top; this thing has possibilities. It's not actually available yet though; it's supposed to ship before the end of 2004.
I think I'd prefer a tablet PC, I've tried an old Acer (well, old by tablet PC standards) and I was impressed, and the Acer didn't have XP SP2 installed. The Tiqit doesn't have a stylus, which is a shame.
