Down-loading real audio files for off-line listening
Following on from Tuesday's post I've been asked how I down-load real-audio files from the BBC's "Listen Again" archives. There are several ways to do it, but I use Offline Explorer Pro.
These are the products I'm aware of that support down-loading streamed content for off-line play back, although I'm sure there are many more:
I've paid for the Pro version of Offline Explorer and I'm very happy with it. Real audio down-loads are slightly tricky in that the URL is to a file which forwards you onto another URL, so you have to allow Offline Explorer Pro to go at
least two levels deep. When you start playing with the advanced stuff the user interface isn't particularly intuitive, but it does have some incredibly powerful scripting features. Obviously you can ignore the advanced features if you don't need them though. One nice thing is that the author runs support forums and replies to, and resolves, reported problems very quickly.
